Dear Colleagues and Students,

I’m pleased to announce that Athletic Director Jack Graham has named Jim McElwain, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the University of Alabama, as our new Rams head football coach.

AD Graham worked closely with a national search firm to identify and interview a strong group of candidates, from which Jim quickly emerged as the top choice. Our campus search advisory committee, which included strong faculty and student representation, reviewed both the process and the candidate and gave a unanimous recommendation to move forward with an offer to Coach McElwain.

I believe he will be an outstanding fit with Colorado State. His coaching career speaks for itself, with a record that includes national and conference championships, a Heisman Trophy winner, and widespread recognition as one of the nation’s top offensive coordinators. But more than that, I believe he’s a good man, a true leader and educator, with strong roots here in the West. He’s got the drive, vision, and character we need to build a program that is successful both on the field and in graduating students.

The strengths he brings to our campus, in my mind, will serve to advance the success and reputation of our university as a whole — and I’m delighted to welcome him on board to lead a bold new era in Ram athletics.
