Dear Students,

Congratulations on making it through the first half of spring semester! I’ve thought about what I would want a University president to say to my own kids before they headed out for spring break, and it would go something like this: Don’t be a knucklehead. Get some rest, relax, and enjoy yourselves — but exercise moderation and make choices you can be proud of once this week is over. Use some common sense, take care of yourselves and your friends, and remember that those embarrassing pictures that seem like such great Facebook fodder today could come back to haunt you next time you go in for a job interview.

If you’re traveling, please pay careful attention to the State Department advisories about travel outside the U.S., particularly the recent updates about Mexico — and respect the culture and laws of the country in which you’re a guest. If you’re staying home and working or studying over the break, cut yourself a little slack and take whatever time you can to re-charge for the rest of the semester. Finals will be here before you know it, and you need to pace yourself.

Have a great week, and I expect to see all of you back here after break in good shape and ready to take on the rest of the semester.

Best wishes,
-tony
